LINK TO FLICKER

2 elements:
1- suspended mobile made of wooden rakes
2- organic vetegables – very thin slice mounted in slide projector which slowly cook the vegetable matter

Relationship of hardware (tools) to software (vegetables)

Gathering usual suspects:

BRAKHAGE MOTHLIGHT – the light through moths wings and dust mounted on 16mm film strip of film. No camera – transparent film stock and projector required. Direct relation between what is image and what is subject – only processing of the image takes place as it passes through the gate of the projector

Point Source’ first performed in 1973

Light passing through vegetable then through structure – illuminating :  1- producing colour and texture – 2-casting shadows / silhouettes

Slowness – contempaltive (ie consciousness of what is going on – as awareness of food and where it comes from and how it gets to you – a journey without too mainy detours.) Aging decomposing or ripening – maybe length of performance is several hours like a late Morton Feldman piece (click for over 3hr long trio “For Philip Guston”) no crescendos or dramatic build ups – it’s just there and totally absorbing – but also free to leave and return.

Contrast of the urban surroundings with the farmhouse and its former location – urban archeology of recent and distant past – pyschogeography – traces of times before “when it were all fields”
